The Viticcio Estate stands amidst a rustic complex, charmingly situated
on the gentle and sunny ridge of a hillside, overlooking sloping vineyards
with superb sun exposure, above the picturesque, ancient town of Greve
in Chianti. It lies midway between the cities of Florence and Siena,
in the heart of Chianti Classico region.
The history of Viticcio is actually the history of the Landini family
which, in the early 1960s became the owner of the winery. The founder,
Lucio Landini, an engineer, was also a man deeply attached to Tuscan
tradition, the Chianti soil and its products. During a time of great
economic crisis Lucio and his wife Franca, compelled to undertake the
risky financial venture of starting up a winery, decided to aim high
and count primarily on exportation. From these modest beginnings the
focus remains the same today - the production of high quality wines worthy
of an expert international clientele.
Viticcio in now owned and managed by Alessandro Landini who, by following
in his father’s footsteps, is the epitome of a new class of wine
entrepreneurs. His work philosophy can be summed up in the three fundamental
characteristics; passion for viticulture and the techniques and science
of wine-making, competence, and professionalism. Alessandro obtained
his degree in Business Economics (with a thesis on the Economics of Chianti
) and then dedicated himself entirely to the wine business.
The Estate, with more than 30 hectares of specialized vines, has undergone
several transformations. The vines have been restructured, respecting
DOC and DOCG regulations and modified, increasing the variety of vines.
In addition, the winery has been renovated to include the most modern,
cutting-edge technology.
The use of barriques has been part of the winemaking technique since
1985. Barriques are used with discretion and competence – without
excessive introduction of vanilla and spices originating from the oak.
Furthermore, we have experimented and acquired new methods of cultivating
vines which are traditional in the Chianti region and others which are
not. The result of these sophisticated experiments, Viticcio’s "Supertuscans" -
the IGT wines Monile and Prunaio, have had ample and increasing success
throughout the world.
The first grape harvest dates back to 1964 with the production of less
than 20.000 bottles. Viticcio wines, characterized by their exceptional
quality, are now sold in Europe, North America and Japan. Despite the
inevitable increase in production over the years, our establishment continues
to be conducted as a "family business", enlivened and blessed
by the presence of five lovely women (mother, wife and 3 daughters) to
whom the names of some products and vacation apartments have been attributed.
At Viticcio, you will find wine-makers whose respect for tradition and
advanced technology meet and intertwine with harmony and professionalism
while maintaining a watchful eye on the environment.
Bookings may be made to visit the cellars and sample the farm produce during the hours of 9 a.m.-midday; 2 p.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday and Sunday closed unless booking arranged beforehand.

grappling its way to new heights.
